CoRE to Career: Edvinder’s Role in Shaping Geology, Engineering, and Innovation

When Edvinder Singh first joined the CoRE Program, he never imagined it would introduce him to a career path he hadn’t previously considered. Today, he is an engineering geologist, working at the intersection of mining, construction, and environmental safety at PTG Consulting - an achievement shaped by his experiences with CoRE.

Building Foundations in CoRE

Edvinder’s journey with CoRE was a turning point in his education. Through hands-on learning and industry-connected experiences, he discovered the practical applications of geology in engineering and mining. These opportunities not only broadened his understanding of STEM but also ignited a passion for solving real-world challenges.

“The CoRE Learning Model opened my eyes to an entirely new industry in mining and engineering, paving the way for my career as an engineering geologist," he reflects.

From CoRE to Career

After completing his studies, Edvinder began his career in engineering geology, a field that plays a crucial role in assessing geological conditions for safe and sustainable engineering projects. His work involves site investigations, geological analysis, and ensuring the stability of infrastructure such as mines and tunnels.

Beyond his core responsibilities, Edvinder has embraced cutting-edge technology, running drone operations for his company. Using advanced photogrammetry, asset inspections, and slope stability analysis, he delivers valuable insights that enhance project outcomes.

The Impact of STEM Learning

Edvinder’s journey highlights the diverse career paths that geology can lead to beyond traditional mining and exploration. Engineering geology bridges the gap between geology and construction, ensuring the stability of major infrastructure projects while offering a balance of fieldwork and technical analysis.

For Edvinder, CoRE was more than just a program - it was the foundation for his career. It encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and a problem-solving mindset that continues to guide his work today.

"I owe my success to the CoRE Learning Model. It taught me to be curious, to question everything, and to challenge myself."

Through CoRE, students are gaining the skills, confidence, and industry exposure they need to pursue rewarding careers in STEM. Edvinder’s story is a testament to how real-world learning can open doors to unexpected and exciting opportunities.
